It’s Easy to Become Discouraged and Give Up.
Discouragement can be a powerful force that hinders our progress if we allow it. Despite the discouraging events unfolding in our country and the world, we can still serve as role models by using encouraging and uplifting words, even when we are feeling discouraged. Even if we are disabled or housebound, we can still write, call, and demand truth to power.
We must always find a way to beat the drum of positivity and the drum of positive solutions.
It’s easy to become discouraged and give up. If everyone gave up and did nothing, more of our rights and freedoms would be taken away. This pushes us backward instead of propelling us forward and beyond. Do we want to go backwards? Do we want to have an uninformed and an undereducated society? Do we want the poorest of the poor and the helpless to suffer even more?
We, The People, Must Be Heard.
Are our leaders role models to our youth when they resort to cursing in news bites? What message does this send to our young children? Do we condone this behavior? In the past, we believed in using constructive, uplifting, and truthful, sometimes fiery speech, rather than hurtful, deceptive, and profane words.
I, Too, Can Feel Disheartened, Disappointed.
Our elected officials are supposed to have our best interests at stake. The government’s power comes from the people it serves, and in a democracy, the government is to protect these rights. We, the people, must be heard.
Our forefathers declared in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights (natural rights and legal rights), including Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. These rights cannot be taken away!
When the government fails to safeguard our rights, we, as the people, have the right to demand change to ensure our safety, well-being, our rights, and the preservation of our democracy.
I, too, can feel disheartened, disappointed. Then I remember my grandmother’s words: “Stand tall and fight for what you believe is right.” Then I get busy. Power to the people!
I Engage With Those Who Feel Discouraged, Offering My Listening Ear, and I try to be Generous With My Understanding.
With my small circle of friends and acquaintances, I speak up and explain the importance of fact-checking the political rhetoric. I engage with those who feel discouraged. Offering a listening ear, I try to be generous with my understanding. I encourage them to take positive actions, such as becoming strong advocates for their beliefs or dedicating themselves to their work. But I also believe that staying active and informed, politically, and holding our elected officials accountable are crucial aspects of our well-being.
When I channel my discouragement into positive action, I am compelled to take even more steps forward toward truth and justice for all. After all, I believe in our democracy and don’t want to regress to a time of fear because of who I am, what I believe in, or who I choose to love. I certainly don’t want to lose our liberties, our civil and political rights. Therefore, all of us must advocate for the continuation of the framework that fosters individual freedom for all Americans.
