Perfection is Not Attainable.
Pursuing perfection can be like riding a merry-go-round to nowhere, particularly in the workplace. This aspiration often leads women to strive for perfection in everything they do, which can hinder their forward movement, growth, and overall advancement. By recognizing and letting go of the load to be perfect at everything, women can open themselves up to greater openness and vulnerability, which are key, I feel, for personal and career growth.
When we approach failure, loss, mistakes, and embarrassing situations with self-compassion, honesty, laughter, and a willingness to learn and improve, we can become an invaluable, authentic, and priceless asset to ourselves and to those we serve and lead. This is how we succeed.
The Mona Lisa, a masterpiece painted by Leonardo da Vinci, is an excellent work of art. It took Leonardo 14 years to complete this perfect masterpiece. Take a moment to pause and reflect on this. 14 years for a perfect masterpiece. …
Embrace who you are, without comparison, and get off the perfection merry-go-round. Break yourself free from this relentless pursuit. Instead, strive for excellence in all you do and dedicate yourself to continuous self-improvement at every stage in life. This authenticity allows you to connect deeply with yourself, friends, and colleagues, which leads to a more enjoyable life. Do you really have 14 years to focus solely on one aspect? You are not a piece of art, no one, and I mean no human, is perfect.
“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.” —Vince Lombardi
